# Configure leaders

> Enable an account as a leader and manage its profile and PAYMENT account.

A leader profile does not create a second operational account. It extends a MAM account that already has `can_be_leader=true`.

## Create the profile

If `payment_account_login` is omitted or `null`, the API creates a PAYMENT account in the same MT5 group. To associate an existing account, send a login different from the operational account and ensure it is not assigned to another leader.

> The PAYMENT account receives performance fees exclusively. Do not register it as an operational MAM account or use it as a leader or follower.

## Minimum deposit

`min_deposit` is expressed in units of the account currency and may be `0`. A change affects new allocations; it does not cancel existing ones.

## Propagation

| Mode | Integration use |
| - | - |
| `ORIGINAL_ONLY` | Propagates only trades originated by the leader account. |
| `CASCADE` | Allows a master account that is also a follower to propagate trades copied from another master to its own followers. |

The API blocks relationships that would create cycles.

`CASCADE` enables trade propagation, but it does not configure revenue sharing by itself. If an upstream master must receive a percentage of this master's performance-fee income, create a separate [cascade-fee agreement](https://mam-api.exuratech.com/guides/cascade-fees.md).

## Update the profile

Use `PATCH /api/v1/mam/leaders/{leader_id}` and send only the fields you want to change. The PAYMENT account cannot be reassigned through this endpoint.

## Batch queries

`POST /api/v1/mam/leaders/query` filters up to 1,000 logins through a request body, which is useful for directories or dashboards with large datasets.
